Kate Schumacher writes stories about the deeper things in life - power and corruption, friendship, loyalty and love, courage and the consequence of choice.
Kate lives in Northern NSW, Australia, with her partner, two children and three very spoiled cats. She finds time to write in the spaces between being a mother and partner, and her job as a teacher.​

She has a Bachelor of Arts in media/communications and creative writing, an Honours degree in screenwriting and a Graduate Diploma of Education.

Her first published new adult fantasy novel, Shadow of Fire, was released in May 2022, and the sequel, Heart of Flame, was released in November 2022. She is currently working on the first book in a new series, due for release in 2023.

The writing journey
I've always been a writer - I remember writing stories during free class time in primary school. I'd illustrate them and then 'publish' them with the help of a stapler. Words have always been my strong point and one of the best things about being a writer is wielding power over words - of shaping and bending and manipulating them until a story emerges. After querying and getting nowhere with a contemporary fiction manuscript years ago, I returned to the fantasy genre, finding new books to read, and finding the bookstagram community on Instagram. From there, I thought, I can do this. I can write fantasy, and remembered I had actually started a fantasy story years before. I dug that up, was surprised to find I'd written about 80k words, and set about rewriting. Shadow of Fire was born from that manuscript, and from there, the words kept coming. I had found my genre, and after years of not focusing on writing, I had rediscovered my passion for words and storytelling. And here we are!
The decision to self-publish was an easy one. I didn't want to spend copious amounts of time wading through the query trenches, and I wanted full control over everything about my project, so after some intensive research, I took the plunge and published my first novel in May 2022.
2024 will see the publication of my fourth novel, with two more books in that series to come, two in another planned duology, and at least one standalone gothic fantasy that has been brewing in my brain for some time.
